Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you'll receive upon booking confirmation or when you pick up your vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with Carlisle:
- To rent a vehicle from Carlisle Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age requirements may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for drivers under 25. A valid driving licence, appropriate for the vehicle category and held for the required duration, is necessary. You must also present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must be met as well.
Booking and Payment Details
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or at our Carlisle location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and security deposit are usually payable at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, a thorough inspection is required to identify any pre-existing damage, which should be reported right away. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed by both parties. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level; if it is returned with less fuel, refueling charges will apply. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please notify us immediately if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during the rental period, in addition to an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. Detailed coverage information and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to minimize your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless further insurance is purchased. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse will remain your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For specific details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or missed reservations may incur charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- Prohibited activities include using the vehicle for illegal purposes or engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials, sub-letting the vehicle, or allowing unauthorized individuals to drive is not permitted. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding weight or passenger limits, and operating outside designated geographical areas without authorization are also strictly forbidden.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Carlisle Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will be limited to the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by English and Welsh law. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately once posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
